Traffic & Construction
Sustainable travel and improved connections

Mary Datchelor Playing Fields is already a well connected site with walking and cycling routes nearby as well as Sydenham Hill Train Station. The improvements will also add:
-
Improvements to pedestrian access from Hunts Slip Road, including a new ramp walkway down to the playing fields which will allow the 3,500 children at DPS and Kingsdale to access the site without crossing a road.
-
Existing car parking would be retained at the current level and new cycle storage would be added, encouraging visitors to cycle rather than drive to the playing fields.
Promoting active travel will be central to the transport designs and we will always encourage our partners who use the playing fields to encourage members to cycle or walk to Mary Datchelor Playing Fields.

Managing construction carefully and responsibly

Assuming planning permission is granted, construction will be managed through a Construction Management Plan (CMP), which will be agreed with and monitored by Southwark Council. The CMP will set out a clear framework to minimise disruption to neighbours and ensure works are carried out safely and responsibly.

Key commitments include:
-
Traffic and Parking: Construction traffic will be managed to minimise impact on surrounding streets.
-
Noise and Dust Control: The CMP will include strict measures to manage noise, dust and vibration, with defined working hours and monitoring where required.
-
Construction Hours and Deliveries: Working hours, delivery times and vehicle routes will be clearly set out and controlled to reduce disruption.
-
Ongoing Monitoring: The CMP will be monitored and enforced, with procedures in place to address issues promptly should they arise.
Further detail will be shared with the community as the proposals progress.
